Historically, one of the busiest days in the restaurant industry. Because the holiday always falls on the second Sunday in May, it's been a tradition to take Mom to lunch or brunch instead of dinner. It's not too late to book a table for this Sunday, when mothers all over Kansas City get the special treatment they deserve.
Another local venue offering afternoon tea on Mother's Day is Shabby Hattie's Tea Room & Boutique in downtown Parkville (113 Main, Parkville,. Owner Marcia Cherrito will be serving only tea that day, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and, yes, there are a few reservations still available. For $17.50 per person, the full tea includes a pot of tea, finger sandwiches, mini quiche, sweet and savory scones, soup and a special dessert.
Why not treat Mom to a bit of dim sum? Pine & Bamboo Garden in Shawnee (10915 Shawnee Mission Parkway, 913-268-9545) has traditional pushcart dim sum service but doesn't take reservations for Sunday dim sum. Expect it to be very busy between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The same goes for Bo Lings on the Country Club Plaza (4800 Main), which offers traditional dim sum between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. This restaurant will take reservations for parties of six or more.
