By now we all know that Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a child with his maid, while keeping his family in the dark. Now comes word that his wife Maria Shriver has decided to file for divorce, citing "irreconcilable difference" as the reason.
Maria asked for joint custody of the couple's children Patrick (17) and Christopher (13), who happens to be the same age as Arnold's illegitimate son. She also asked for spousal support and that Arnold pays the attorney fees for both parties.
Maria and Arnold's net worth has been estimated to be anywhere from $200 million to $800 million. It is believed that they have a pre-nuptial agreement, so it's not going to be a simply 50/50 split of the assets.
According to the Associated Press, Schwarzenegger -- who starred in blockbusters The Terminator and True Lies -- has interests in at least eight entities of $1 million or more, according to disclosure forms filed when he finished his term as governor.
Shriver, a member of the Kennedy dynasty, is worth at least $1 million, including book royalties. She stepped down as an NBC anchor and journalist when her husband ran for governor.
California is a community property state, meaning that they money they earned during a marriage is co-owned by both husband and wife, regardless of who actually earned it.
They also have four children together.
Since leaving office, Schwarzenegger has signed on to star in the drama Cry Macho. His reps at CAA also are shopping a package for a new Terminator sequel. In addition, he has partnered with Stan Lee on a Governator comic and animated series, with plans for a movie as well.
Shriver runs a women's empowerment website and served as a guest editor on an issue of Oprah Winfrey's magazine, O.
The couple's marriage faced challenges in 2003, when Schwarzenegger was running for governor of California. Various media outlets reported on his history of groping women, but Shriver defended him at the time.
