Mother's day in Oklahoma City

Program Helps Moms In Prison Send Messages For Mother's Day

The program, called “Messages From Mom,” said it's working to rebuild the bond in the broken families.
Oklahoma leads the nation in the incarceration of woman.
This week, the messages project has trained volunteers and gone to state prisons and filmed incarcerated mothers reading books, poems or messages to their children.
The messages included many “It’s mommy. I love you very much.” And “Mommy misses you.


Mother's Day weekend is an opportunity to do a little cleaning. It's Free Landfill Day in Oklahoma City on Saturday.
Between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., each residential household may drop off one load using a passenger vehicle or a single-axle truck up to one ton and one trailer up to 16 feet long.

Participating landfills include:
East Oak Landfill: 3201 Mosley Rd. (NE 36th Street, east of Sooner Road, on the south side of the street)
Oklahoma City Landfill d/b/a Southeast Landfill - 7001 S. Bryant Ave.
Oklahoma Landfill d/b/a Waste Connections - 7600 SW 15th St.
Northeast Landfill - 2601 N. Midwest Blvd.; Spencer, Okla.
