Mother's day celebration in Charlotte

In Honor of Mother's Day: Four Amazing Moms You Should Know

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The National Weather Service issued a Dense Fog Advisory through 9 a.m. Saturday with low visibility across the Charlotte area and surrounding regions.
Channel 9 meteorologist Katie Virtue said lingering moisture and calm winds allowed a thin layer of low clouds to settle across the Piedmont.
The fog is expected to clear quickly through the morning hours, with bright sunshine by 10 a.m. The sunshine will dim late Saturday as the next storm system approaches.

FireWater is the new spot in the former Lava Bistro location, 8708 J.W. Clay Blvd. Defining itself as "semi-fine dining with a tapas-focused menu" plus entrees, it opens today. It will also host a Mother's Day buffet, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., with rosemary-rubbed prime rib, blueberry cheesecake French toast, tuna au poivre, and more. $25 ($8 for kids): 704-549-0050.

As families across Marshall County celebrate Mother's Day this weekend, area nursing homes and assisted living facilities are honoring those who have served as mothers for many years.
Charlotte Christopher, activities director for Branchwater Village in Boaz, said she feels it is important for families to spend time with their mothers on Mother's Day.

The couple hopes that their dedication to American military families transcends politics and that "Support our Troops" will become an action and not just a slogan. They are working on their first Washington, DC "Stand Up For Heroes" fundraising event in June and will hold their annual New York fundraiser in the fall.
