Long Beach Celebrates Mother's Day

Mother’s Day can cause headache. What exactly do you give her?

It’s best to remember that Mother’s Day is about making moms feel special and loved, and not just via material things. From your very own cleaning services to the classic greeting card with flowers, the possibilities are endless for reminding Mom of your love on her special day.

Young at heart moms will leap at a family expedition to Mark Twain Library's annual Frog Frolic in Redding on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with its crafts for all ages, games, a silent auction, vendors, delicious food and competitions. (Win the easy-going Cake Walk race and, fittingly, you win a cake.)

Live jazz and complimentary admission to the Art Auction 14 exhibit will be part of brunch from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Claire’s at the Long Beach Museum of Art, 2300 E. Ocean Blvd. Brunch features made-to-order omelets, a carving station, endless salad bar, bottomless Champagne and more. It’s $49.95 for adults (discounts for members) and $12.95 for ages 10 and younger. Reservations are required and the phone number is 439-2119, ext. 270.

Think a car show is more Father's Day than Mother's? Not Model Ts to Mustangs Antique and Classic Car Show on Saturday at Stamford Museum and Nature Center. Its special Cadillac section and cavalcade of historic cars will bring out mom's inner hotrodder.

Michael’s on Naples serves brunch and dinner on Mother’s Day. Brunch (10:30 a.m. -2 p.m.) is a three-course prix fix meal for $35, including a glass of Prosecco. The prix fix dinner is served starting at 5 p.m. It’s $55 and includes the glass of Prosecco. Call 439-7080 for reservations. Michael’s is located at 5620 E. Second St.

Strawberries are just one of the main events for mom and hungry family members at St. Mark's 62nd Annual May Fair & Strawberry Festival on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in New Cannan. There are carnival rides and games to try out, goods to shop for at its flea market and plenty of homemade red berry treats to sample
