Wahab Riaz ( وہاب ریاض) is a Pakistani cricketer. A left-arm fast-medium bowler and a right-hand batsman, he is considered to be a bowling all-rounder.
He made his international debut in a One Day International against Zimbabwe in 2008, taking two and he played one more ODI against Bangladesh shortly after, taking two more wickets. He also played the Twenty20 International which followed and took one wicket.
Riaz was chosen in the squad for the tri-series in Bangladesh which also included India and in his first match against Bangladesh, he was Pakistan's best bowler and finished the game with an impressive return of 3 wickets for 22 runs in 7 overs and in the next match although he took two important Indian wickets he conceded 85 runs.
Wahab made his test debut against England in the third test of the 2010 series. England batted first and Wahab took 5/63 in the first innings. In Pakistan's first innings he came into bat at number 3 and made 27 runs. Within this series, Wahab Riaz was questioned as part of the spot-fixing investigation following allegations by the News of the World. It is suspected that Riaz also took part in spot-fixing and match-fixing whilst playing for county teams within Pakistan, where he was not a frequent first team player but worked as a middleman in match-fixing deals.
He next played for Pakistan in the test series against South Africa in October 2010 he participated in 4 ODI's and showed that he had good batting-skills has his lower order cameos continued to rescue Pakistan from defeat. He was selected to play in the first test later in that series he took two wickets that of Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla however towards the end of the day he picked up a side strain. He did not bowl the following day. A scan showed that Riaz had picked up an injury which takes 4-5 weeks to recover from therefore he missed the rest of the test series.
